欢迎您来奥兰多抱团养老

抱团养老

What is 抱团养老?

抱团养老 (Bao Tuan Yang Lao), translated into “unite in retirement life” or “ huddle in retirement life”, is a unique style of retirement living. 抱团养老 is Trade-Marked in the United States by Ms. Angie Huang, a real estate entrepreneur who is dedicated to help people with similar cultural background to retire and relocate into an area to live and enjoy retirement or semi-retirement life together. Angie’s vision for 抱团养老 is to develop a business model to serve 抱团养老 communities’ needs including development and searching for residential and commercial real estate properties ideal for 抱团养老 and to attract like-minded professionals and business owners to relocate and start business in local 抱团养老 area. The businesses needed for 抱团养老 communities include medical and home-care service, assistant living, insurance, financial planning, grocery store and restaurants, etc.

抱团养老 has been initiated within Wechat groups since 2016 and many people responded well to the concept and purchased residential homes and relocated in Orlando area. Others purchased residential properties for investment now and plan to retire within a few years. Angie and her team are devoted to help more Chinese immigrants to enjoy an active retirement life in the United States.

Who Needs 抱团养老?

We, as Chinese immigrants, have been living scattered across the US for years due to our career and professional needs. As we are getting closer to retirement age, our children have moved away and work is no longer a major part of life. Many of us want to retire in warmer climate with our close friends and family for activities, business partnerships and travels. We would love to provide the following environment to those who are considering 抱团养老:

· Helping each other in time of family emergencies

· A warmer climate and better weather for outdoor activities

· Be involved in local community’s political agenda and aspirations

· A place where we can learn new skills and be mentally active together

· Live in an area closer to Chinese grocery stores, restaurants, doctors and cultural events

· New subdivisions where people can purchase homes with very close proximity to each other

Angie’s Own Experience

My parents are the first generation of new immigrants from China. In 1978, my father came to the States as a visiting scholar to learn the newest technology in treating Lung cancer at the University of Kentucky medical school in Lexington, Kentucky. My mom and I came to join him in 1987, when she was fifty years old and spoke zero English (her foreign language training was Russian). After coming to America, my mom taught herself English, as well as laser acupuncture and Oriental body work, which is a milder form of Chiropractic manipulation. Together with my father, they obtained acupuncturist license and practiced in Chicago for many years in their own clinic. As you can see, they are capable and independent people.

When my father reached 65, I got married and moved to the suburbs. I was able to convince them to sell their single family home, and move across the street from us into a condo. Because they were workaholics, and they did not have friends to socialize with that of similar in age, they continued working part-time as a way of socializing (with their patients). They worked until their health did not allow them to work anymore. I always felt my parents did not really have a retired life because they had no friends to retire with, so they did not get to enjoy retired life fully (except the month or two each year they spent in China each year on vacation.) Since our kids will mostly live in the US when we retire, living in China is no longer an option because most of us don’t want to be too far from them. So they and their kids can visit us easily.

When we moved to Florida in 2012, I have seen firsthand how much good a warmer climate can help with our health. My parents’ later years were fairly lonely, partly because there were fewer Chinese people in their age close to them. After observing the process of them getting old, I do not want the same kind of lonely life in retirement, like many of my clients. That's when I started to consider 抱团养老, Unite in Retirement. I spent about a year listening to different people's needs, opinions, and preferences. I also put a lot of consideration into how to find a more inclusive environment for this purpose. Now I have a preliminary plan and ideas regarding this lifestyle, and I will share with all of you who are interested.

抱团养老 Communities

There are two types of communities that can be used for 抱团养老. One is 55+ communities. This type of community generally do not allow kids eighteen years of age or under to stay there for long. They also require one of the family members purchasing is fifty five or older. The advantages of subdivision like this are abundant activity space (card room, craft room and yoga room) and organized field trips and classes on a regular basis. In this type of community, you are living with people of similar age, easier to make friends, and people are generally not very noisy. HOA dues are usually higher, because it covers cable TV, internet and lawn maintenance. Downside of this type of communities is the lack of young people’s energy and laughter.

Another type is regular mixed age community that offers single story home models. Frequently I hear people interested in 抱团养老 talk about how much they hate living in "old folks' place" and watch each other’s health deteriorate. So a mixed age community will work out better for those who feel this way Mixed age communities do not provide organized activities and usually have less activity space. Consequently, residents pay lower HOA fee as well. However keep in mind that the HOA may not include lawn care or TV/internet expense.

I searched for areas with both types of new subdivisions within 15 minutes of driving distance to satisfy those who want mixed age and those who wants 55+ communities. I hope we can provide pre-retired people with difference taste the freedom to retire together, and more flexibility in retirement style. When they want to play cards or Mahjong, they can go to the 55+ community. But if they feel like to simply go watch kids play, they can go to the mixed age community. One of the biggest reasons I like Orlando is that I found different upscale suburbs surrounding the city with brand new subdivisions that allow us to accomplish this purpose. They are all at different price points, starting in the $300,000s, depending on how far they are from Chinese supermarkets and Chinese restaurants we need.

Type of Homes for 抱团养老

One level single family home in a new-build subdivision is best for 抱团养老, because a house without stairs will be easier on the joints when we get older. When it comes to number of bedrooms, some prefer 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, some prefer slightly bigger. When we get older, we tend to sleep in separate bedrooms due to health reasons. The third bedroom can be used for guest room or caregiver's room. Some clients who prefer to host more than one kids’ families may choose 4 bedroom 3 bathroom. In Orlando we have new-build subdivisions that have many floor plans to choose from, and lots with various views. This can help groups of friends to settle in, even though they may all want different views in the back or home facing a certain directions. Some builders also allow buyers to upgrade to more luxurious interior options such as better cabinets or moldings. These new subdivisions also allow many of us to buy into the community together, while established communities cannot.

Why In Orlando?

1. Orlando is No.1 fastest growing city in the US

Orlando metropolitan area, the 23rd-largest metropolitan area in the United States, is a midsize city in central Florida with 2.5 million people according to U.S. Census Bureau figures released in July 2017. As one of the world's most visited tourist destinations, Orlando is proud of its entertainment industry and activities that it provides. The most significant of these attractions are Walt Disney World, Universal Studios Florida, Sea World and Legoland. Orlando’s infrastructure is in the process of being upgrade. Many new highways and bridges are being built and look amazing. The cruise ports in Cape Canaveral and Tampa are merely about one-hour away.

7. Orlando is No.2 safest city in Florida

There’s really nowhere 100 percent safe in Florida from hurricanes. Orlando is an inland city and about one-hour away from both coasts. Hurricane damage to Orlando has been much less than other Florida cities. Orlando is the No. 2 safest city in Florida

8. Florida has no state income tax nor estate tax

There is no State income tax and estate tax and no state estate tax in Florida. Residential real estate price in Orlando is still reasonable and building quality are great.

The City of Orlando is nicknamed "The City Beautiful," where the environment is well protected comparing to other agricultural and industrial States. There is no major pollution nor natural disasters except occasional hurricanes. The sky is blue with cotton-white clouds and more than 300 days of sunshine a year. The trees and grass are green year round.
